SENS International : CLIMATE PROTECTION BY RECYCLING

WEEE-Forum

WEEE Forum

The WEEE Forum incorporates 39 European take-back systems for e-waste. It provides a platform for information and cooperation and aims continually to improve its members' disposal and recycling system procedures and methods. Membership of the WEEE Forum obliges its members to support qualitatively superior and environmentally friendly e-waste recycling. The WEEE Forum, as a forum for disposal systems in EU countries, represents a unique centre of European competence and is therefore in demand as a point of reference in political dialogue.

SENS International is directly involved in this centre of competence through its representatives, and the President of SENS International, Dr Andreas Röthlisberger, presides over the WEEE Forum. The Managing Director of SENS International, Dr Robert Hediger, holds the position of Chairman of the steering group of the WEEELABEX project.

The WEEE Forum aims to increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the take-back systems for electrical waste and at the same time to achieve the highest quality and continued improvement in environmental protection. It provides a platform for cooperation at European level and forms the basis for the exchange of best practices. The members of the WEEE Forum are supported in sustainable business development within the framework of existing rules and regulations. Support and also exchange and transfer of knowledge in the WEEE Forum allow members to become experts in handling electrical and electronic waste. They can bring their knowledge to bear through constructive contributions to the political dialogue in their countries.

Within the WEEELABEX project, the WEEE Forum is working on a set of recycling standards for the different groups of electrical and electronic appliances as part of the EU's Life+ project, which has been running for a number of years. These standards set the requirements for collection, transportation, storage, recycling and re-use and define the high requirements for certification from the recycling services.

The quality standards for recycling, which the WEEE Forum is compiling, also apply to all SENS International's climate protection projects.
